“The Afro-Dominican Jazz Suite”

Inspired by Dizzy Gillespie and Chano Pozo’s legendary fusions of Afro-Cuban music with jazz, this piece combines Duluc’s pri-prí harmonica; Yorùbá-Cuban songs dedicated the orisha (spirit) Chango; influences from Igor Stravinsky; and freely improvised jazz. Note Gustavo Rodríguez’s masterful piano solo. To me, this far-ranging eclectic mix not an anomaly; instead, it represents a microcosm of the globalized multifarious world that we experience every day.
